Build Diary.

July 2001

Purchased a copy of Which Kit (to sell off some of my Ford Sierra bits!), and there it is my dream car, checkout the website, Oh no….it can’t be based on THAT! So no…..I’m not having one!….or aren’t I?

August 2001

Decided that if I can find a chassis that will fit under my dream cars body, then I’ll do it that way…what are the requirements….well must be able to be made as a 4x4, so due to my previous familiarity and allegiance, that means Ford Sierra compatible, must have proper double wishbones all round (no semi trailing arms or front anti-roll bar pretending to be a suspension arms) and it must be about the right size!

September 2001

Off to Donnington Kit car show to see what will do the job, unfortunately nothing fits the bill directly, but lots of Locost bits there from Martin Keenan, Lolocost and Stuart Taylor…maybe that’s the way forward, so do some homework, and figure it’s a goer, checked Ewans 4x4 website (at that time the only person attempting to 4x4 a Locost), he has some good ideas, this could be on!

Buy a tatty chassis, cost £50, brought it home in the 6x4 trailer I have, back end into the trailer, ballasted by 2 bags of sand and well strapped in. Just as well the lightboard has a long lead, as the front sticks 5 foot out the trailer! It’s very rusty but useable to decide if a Locost chassis will do the biz.

Take some measurements, and decide it can be done!

Next its all the way down to Kent, this chassis is a beaut’, really clean, good welding, part painted, with pedal box, suspension arms, and a few sundries.

October 2001

Buy a can of Red Oxide primer, and start painting the chassis, I know Ron waited till it was finished, but I figure its better to paint it now, even though some stuff will be thrown away, and other bits cut and welded, need to take some photo’s as well, and get a website up………
