Is
this going to be a Locost, well to be
honest no! However in the same way as the Locost is often described as a
7-esque, as my chassis and suspension are going to be loosely based on Ron
Champions book, I am describing my creation as Locost-esque.
I could have made my own
chassis for my car, but was faced with the problem of making it square, and
making it strong enough. Once I
had decided to use a Locost-esque chassis I had a dilemma, do I try and build
the chassis to the right size, or do I build a Locost chassis, then convert it
to what I need, well the problem was solved when I saw a Locost project for
sale, £200 for chassis (with floor, square and well made), with front and rear
suspension arms (rear is for a live axle, but I could always sell them on)
pedal box, and sundry other bits…sorted. Best bit was that the chassis would
fit in my 6x4 camping trailer for transport home!
The idea now is to cut the
chassis, and re-weld it to the dimensions required for my Locost-esque!
