The
car is going to be 4x4, but why, well there are a number of reasons, firstly my
supercar inspiration is 4WD, so this will be following in that vein, secondly I
think that a properly set up 4WD car is much better to drive than a 2WD car,
and thirdly, having decided to use Sierra parts for most of the suspension and
running gear, it would be silly not to have 4WD! The Sierra will be donating is
running gear, as well as front uprights and rear bearing carriers, brakes and a
number of trim and electrical items, it is even possible that the car will
receive the Sierra’s ABS system!
The
engine will not however be the 2.8V6, this is for 2 reasons, firstly I consider
the engine to be too heavy for a lightweight kit car (sorry Glen and Ewan), and
secondly, my Supercar was mid-engined, but I am staying with front engine for
my Locost-esque, and the V6 just will not fit under the ‘bonnet’. Most likely power source is a Subaru
‘EA82T’ flat four-turbo engine from the 1980’s L-series Subaru’s (although I’ve
been offered an EJ20 quad cam from a legacy at a nice price…more
decisions!). It is very low,
weighs in at an excellent 142lb (dry), and can give about 170bhp with very few
mods!
